Top 10 Tips for a Wardrobe Detox
Top 10 tips for creating your new wardrobe!
There is nothing like starting the new with a wardrobe full of clothes you actually like, wear and need for the coming months. We love the saying New Year, New You so thought that a bit of motivation in your wardrobe would help you along…..
Here are our top 10 tips for giving yourself a wardrobe makeover.
1. The first step is to clear out your wardrobe and sort out what you have. You will need to schedule in a good 3 hours for this so get rid of the kids, the husband, turn off the phone and get started. Also get yourself in the right frame of mind….you will have to be with yourself! This is for you.
2. Start by taking out everything from your wardrobe and throw it into one pile; do a quick sort and divide up your clothes into categories. Yes, No’s, Maybe’s and Keep sakes.
No’s are a definite no and throw them straight into a bin bag.
Yes’s can be kept and along with the Maybe’s need to be culled further. Ask yourself does it fit? Do you like it? Do you feel good when you wear it? Do you have other items to go with it? Is it too worn? Are you only keeping because of the label? Are you only keeping it because you bought it overseas?
3. If you have a few items that are great but need modifying then take them to the tailor or fix them yourself. Get your pants finally taken up or down, change buttons to update the look, have them repaired or soak them if the colour needs brightening.
4. Rehang all the yes’s and make sure they are hung correctly and with no wire hangers in site.
5. From what is left analyse each item and start to think about where the gaps are. Do you have no trousers for work now? Are you jeans just too stretched? Are you only wearing maternity skirts but no longer pregnant? Write yourself a shopping list of items you need.
6. How much do you want to spend on Personal Shopping? Write a budget and finalise your list because you are going shopping!
7. To buy all the items on your list you will need to set aside some time. Remember that this is to only buy the items on your list, don’t get sidetracked!
8. When I am shopping for a client I follow these key steps. I shop for colour, style, fabric and then try it on. Go into shops you don’t normally venture in and follow these steps so you can quickly skim the store and find what you need.
9. Now that you have everything that you need you can now create outfits. Spend some time to mix and match what you have and work out a few outfit. If you need to photograph them and stick the photos up in your wardrobe.
10. Enjoy and cherish what you have! Remember that if you don’t feel great in it don’t wear it!
